Formerly Manager of Health and Safety, Wiltshire Council and previously Senior Food Technologist, J Sainsbury plc
David Bardwell qualified as an Environmental Health Officer in 1971. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register. He subsequently worked for a number on councils, specialising in Food Safety.
He spent 10 years as a retail food technologist specialising in poultry and delicatessen products, dealing with ensuring the maintenance of corporate standards by contracted producers. This work included labelling, weight control, composition, consistency and safety. The variety of producers supplying a major retailer offered wide experience though out the UK and Western Europe.
After this commercial experience he returned to enforcement running the Food Safety team in West Wiltshire where he worked closely with the many local food manufacturers
He has been an advisor to the Food Standards Agency especially on Food Factory inspection techniques and has regularly lectured to enforcers across the country on this subject.
David has also been an advisor to the European Food Safety Agency and has represented the UK at European meetings.
Uniquely, he established a local liaison forum in West Wiltshire where enforcers and producers could meet to debate, informally, current issues and developments.
He has worked for many years with new businesses to help prepare them for both ensuring compliance and for the rigours of the market place.
